CHOGM 2022 is scheduled to take place the week of 20-26 June 2022

Four forums will be held on the sidelines of CHOGM 2022 namely:

  • Youth Forum – 19-21 June 2022
  • Women’s Forum – 20-21 June 2022
  • People’s Forum – 21-22 June 2022
  • Business Forum – 21-23 June 2022

In addition, other confirmed side events include:

  • Human Rights Biennial conference – 16-17 June 2022
  • Malaria Summit – 23 June 2022
  • Rwanda – Commonwealth Fashion Week – All week

A note on media arrangements has been shared with all required details.

A full program of key media moments, including the size and composition of media pools to cover them as well as media access will be provided in due course. This information will be available at the media center.

Coverage of events that are not part of the official program and media opportunities away from CHOGM 2022 venues will be the responsibility of visiting delegations/ journalists.

The CHOGM 2022 media center will be located at the Kigali Convention Center and all accredited members of the media will have access to it.

The media center will have a large working area with facilities including workspaces, edit booths, host broadcast feeds, press conference facilities, interview rooms and areas for pieces to camera. The media center will have wi-fi and printers.

The media centre will operate from 19 to 26 June 2022, 24h/7.

Press conference facilities capacity is limited and will be booked on a first come, first served basis. Delegations are invited to share their plans with the CHOGM 2022 Media and Communications team as early as possible.

A schedule of official media briefings and press conferences will be released closer to the date.

Media access to some CHOGM 2022 venues will be limited to small, escorted media pools. The CHOGM 2022 Media and Communications team will provide full details in due course.

Access to these groups will be based upon regional representation and on a first come first serve basis. The CHOGM 2022 Media and Communications team will ensure coverage is available to all media.

Due to the nature of the Heads of Government Retreat, members of the media will not have access to them.

Media wishing to interview a Head of Government, Foreign Minister or member of a delegation must make their interview request through their delegation Media Liaison Officer or via the information desk of the media centre. The request will then be forwarded to the appropriate delegation.

Delegations will be able to book interview rooms should your Head of Government, Foreign Minister or spokesperson wish to do a media briefing.

Requests to book interview and conference rooms can be made via the media information desk in the media center. Interview and conference room schedules will be available at the media information desk.

Citizens from any Commonwealth, Francophonie or African Union country, get a 30-day free visa upon arrival.

Nationals of all other countries will receive visas on arrival at Kigali International Airport and all land borders at a fee.

The CHOGM 2022 Media and Communication team will facilitate accredited media accompanying official delegations.

Media will be requested to share details of the equipment before traveling.

Members of the media who wish to cover CHOGM 2022 will have to apply for accreditation through the online portal via www.chogm2022.rw. The deadline for registration is Monday 23 May 2022.

Only one official photographer can be accredited as part of the official delegation. Member countries bringing a videographer must accredit them via the media accreditation portal.

The Commonwealth Secretariat, in close consultation with the Host Government, is the final authority for all media accreditation for CHOGM 2022.

Delegates can visit the media center if they are accompanied by an accredited member of the media.

Stand-up broadcast positions at the Kigali Convention Center will be available to book closer to CHOGM 2022 on a first come first served basis, through the CHOGM 2022 Media and Communication team. You can contact them by email at media@chogm2022.rw.

The Host Broadcaster for CHOGM 2022 is the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (www.rba.co.rw). They will record media events associated with CHOGM 2022 and will provide footage from these events to accredited media in the media centre.

The Government of Rwanda has reserved three hotels for official press accompanying delegations. However, a list of designated hotels will be shared with any other media who shows interest. Early booking is advised.

Media access to the official ceremony will be limited to an escorted media pool, based upon regional representation.

The official group ‘family’ photograph is taken by the official photographer, but a photographer pool of 12 journalists representing international news agencies, domestic news agencies and pool members chosen on a regional basis is also present.

Accreditation will close on Monday 23 May 2022.
